Tik-Tok is the new kid on the block when it comes to social media platforms. It’s still in the early phase and has a long way to go when it comes to marketing and advertising. But used correctly you can promote your business opportunity on Tik Tok.

Currently, Tik-Tok is one of the fastest-growing apps with more than 500 million active users. And predicted to hold that status well into the year. They have recently launched their paid advertising and hyperlinking capabilities on the platform.

And around 700 million to 800 million monthly active users internationally.

Though,  Tik Tok doesn’t sound to be different from other social media platforms. Yet, it does have some very unique content. And the least expensive way to promote your brand.   Some of the popular videos you’ll see are Lip syncing videos, magic tricks, duets, and any other crazy ideas.  

 The key here is authenticity. Create content that is amusing,  playful and entertaining to your audience. 

 Even though Tik Tok has a much younger audience  you should still be on it. Regardless of your age, there’s still an opportunity to leverage the platform. In return getting extraordinary results for your business.

Tik Tok as established is more for younger consumers. Certain advantages are catering to younger demographics. It’s a raw and unedited platform. Where you get to see a diversity of people being funny, not very serious and carefree.

A lot of professional businesses you usually have to maintain a certain image. Whether on Instagram, Facebook, and Youtube. Because other people of your age are searching for it or might have a negative connotation with it.

But with Tik-Tok seeing being comedic and silly can be very invigorating and freeing. It allows you to be your true self.

CONTENT

Since Tik Tok is still very new we’ve yet to see where their content is heading for the future. However, we do know the content is doing very well right now. The user’s experience is comfortable, relaxed and just fun in general.

If you’re thinking of using corporate sales pitch then Tik Tok is not the place. Your focus needs to be on content that is both entertaining and informational as well.

There are several information-based videos. Such as cooking videos, life hacks videos, money-making videos and things of that nature. By doing so, you can amass a following of million people by creating valuable content like this.

Another important tip is consistency -the key to growth on Tik Tok. The more you post, the better chance for you to feature on the “for you” page. Also known as the FYP. It’s  Instagram’s analogue version of the Explorer Page.

As a new business, I recommend posting at least one to three times a day.  Popular Songs on the app include “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas, “The Nights” by Avicii.  Tik Tok also makes it easy to share your content across other social networks.

Tik-Tok offers in the realm of content and like Instagram is the ability to go live to your audience. From both a user’s perspective and a business perspective. This tool offers to engage and connect with your audience. Worth implementing as a business.

 

STRATEGY

It’s still the early days of Tik-Tok advertising. But has the potential to become more popular and established over time.

As far as a digital marketing strategy goes there are 4 different types of advertising.  Not all of these are available worldwide. Tik-Tok’s country index for its advertising is limited.

  1. FYP pre-roll ads– The rarest form of advertisement. They typically appear the moment you log on to Tik-Tok and access the “for you” page. These ads are very short. Usually, about 5 to 7 seconds in length. 
  2. Infeed Native Content–  You’ve probably noticed these ads after every 10  videos or so. They appear as Instagram or Snapchat Stories and placed at the bottom or in the feed. These ads last from 9 to 15 seconds and every one of them is skippable. They also support multiple CTA’s (call to actions). Such as website clicks, app downloads, etc. 

Infeed ads based on one of the  3 models of action 

  • CPC (cost-per-click)
  • CPV( cost-per-view)(6 seconds)
  • CPM (cost-per-thousand – impressions)

 Also, you can with In-feed ads you can target your audience based on their gender, age and location.

  1. Influencer Marketing– Now this does take some considerable time and research. Tik Tok is youth-centric,  you need to make sure you’re pairing the right product with the right personality. Fashion accessories and clothing lines have a lot of success with influencer marketing. 

Another interesting nuance is, with Youtube. When getting a brand deal or sponsorship there’s a hard line between what you can do and what you can’t do. While you’re promoting the product or the name of the sponsor. However, with Tik-Tok brands that reach out to influencers give them creative freedom. To take the product and integrate that into their content, in their unique style.

  1. Hashtag Challenges –  A prime way to promote your business on TIK TOK is by launching a hashtag challenge. It encourages you to create content and repurpose it with very own branded hashtags.

To get the best results from these challenges is to find the right influencer. One that appeals to your target audience. They should be able to promote your product in a creative and fun way, that transpires others to follow suit.

Example of this is:

Chipotle the restaurant chain targeted millennials and Generation Z. They base their hashtag challenges around events like Cinco de Mayo and National Guac Day. Their guac dance challenge encouraged users to upload themselves performing “guac dances”. The restaurant received 250,000 videos and 430 million views in six days. In turn, establishing their brand presence and drive interaction.

The take away from this is, using the right hashtag or going the extra mile.  Creating your memorable hashtag challenge is the prime strategy for rapid growth.

Tip: Create hashtag groups that include broad and niche-specific tags. Example #fyp #4you #featureme etc.  

 

  1. Brand Take over- Tik- Tok allows a brand to take over the app for a day.  The ads usually last about 5 seconds. You can create GIFS, images, and videos. Add embed links to your websites, landing page or to hashtag challenges. 

According to Digiday,  Brand takeover ads cost $50,000 per day. With a guaranteed 5 million impressions.
